Since Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, companies all across the Gulf states—and indeed, across the nation—have banded together to help the victims of the storm in whatever way they could.
Locally, Winter Springs Roofing & Repairs and many other Central Florida companies banded together for the People Helping People drive, where we collected bottled water, diapers, baby formula and canned foods for the people who were displaced by the hurricane.
Of course, just a little over a week later, communities much closer to home faced their own trial by natural disaster, and again, local companies as well as companies and individuals all over the country leapt into action to help the vulnerable people who’d been affected by the storm.
There’s still work to be done
Those efforts are still going on. Many of us were lucky enough to have been spared the worst of the damage, but for others, it’s going to take a lot more time to recover.
If you’re interested in helping the ongoing effort to help the victims of these two hurricanes, contact us at Winter Springs Roofing & Repairs. For cash donations, we suggest you donate to the Red Cross’s donation fund. We also suggest you consider a donation to the Humane Society, as they are doing the very important work of rescuing and finding homes for all the animals displaced by the storms.
People Helping People are still collecting the following items, which we’ll put in care packages and deliver to those in need:
- Bottled water: Not sugary drinks, just plain water. People displaced from their own homes often face dehydration.
- Canned food: Staples such as beans and corn are most important, but soups and fruit are also good.
- Baby formula and baby food: Not boxes of baby rice and oatmeal—generally plastic, glass, or aluminum packages ships and keeps best without going bad.
- Diapers: You can’t have too many diapers!
- Soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant: Toiletries make a big difference in quality of life.
Interested in helping?
Again, if you’re interested in helping out, please get in touch with us. If you’re one of the many people who’ve already donated, thank you! All of us take for granted our daily routines, the people we see, the places we visit and the bed we sleep in, but it can all be taken away in an instant. And without our shared instinct to bind together, to give freely and to help others when they are in need, the people most impacted might never be able to fully recover. We hope you’ll keep your donations coming, and keep all the affected people in your thoughts. Your generosity and concern is what makes you human. We’re proud to have been able to work with you to make a difference in the lives of people who needed it. Thank you.
Thankful for the chance to help
We’re just a humble roofing contractor in Central Florida, but we love our community, having been in business here for over 30 years. We look forward to working with you as we help each other pick back up after these storms. It’s not often our work as roofing contractors gives us the opportunity to work with such a variety of individuals on such an important cause. It’s been truly humbling.
